If your customers are companies, count companies.

Tell ClickClacks which company a person is acting for. Insights, Funnels and Retention can then count accounts as well as people, and every company gets a page of its own.

What it does

In a B2B product, ten busy people at one customer are still one customer. ClickClacks stamps each event with the company it belongs to, so the same reports can answer “how many accounts”, and you can open any account to see who in it is active.

DocsCompanies and groups

Sending

One call says which company.

Call group once after sign-in, next to identify. The browser or app remembers the company and stamps it on every later event. From your servers, each event names its company itself. Traits such as name, plan and seats go into a company profile.

  • History stays true: when someone changes company, their old events stay with the old one.
  • Nothing is filled in afterwards. Events sent before the call never count for the company.
  • Works from the browser, the server API, the Node and PHP SDKs and the mobile SDK.

Count by

Count companies in the reports you already use.

Insights gains two measures, unique companies and a per-company average. Funnels and Retention gain a Count by switch. A company converts when its members, between them, do the steps in order: Dana can sign up and Sam can send the first invite.

  • A company-counted report says what share of events had no company and were left out.
  • Count by is saved with the report, and with the link.
  • Flows always counts people, because a company’s events mix several people’s paths.

Company pages

A list of your accounts, and a page for each.

The Companies list shows every company your events were stamped with: active members, events, last seen and first seen, for the dates you pick. Open one for its traits, its members and its activity, and chart it in Insights with one click.

  • Search by name or ID, sort four ways, and pin up to three traits as columns.
  • A person’s page lists the companies their recent events carried.
  • Traits that look personal, such as an email or a phone number, are left out by default.

Filters and segments

Slice any report by company, or by what it’s worth.

Filter a report to one company or to a trait, such as plan is pro, even when the report counts people. Save a company segment from what its members did or never did, a trait or a fixed list, and compare segments in Funnels and Retention.

  • Board filters take the same company filters.
  • An alert on a funnel or retention report that counts companies counts companies too.
  • Company segments also narrow the Companies list.

Questions it answers

Ask it the way you’d ask a colleague.

How ClickClacks answers it

Add a series in Insights and choose the Unique companies measure. Put Unique people beside it and one chart shows both, so one busy customer stops looking like many.

Who it’s for

Three ways teams use it.

  • Agencies

Keep one project per client: that is what stops one client seeing another’s data. Turn on companies inside a client’s project when that client sells to businesses, and report its active accounts.

    Clients are projects, never groups

  • Indie developers

Selling to small teams? Add one group call after sign-in with the workspace’s ID and name. You get an account list and “active workspaces” without building either.

    group('workspace', id, { name })

  • Product teams

Measure activation the way sales talks about it: did the account get there, whoever in it did each step. Then compare plans with a company segment.

How it works

Under the hood

  1. 01The company is on the eventEach event carries the companies it belongs to. An event counts for a company only when it carries it, so history stays true when people move.
  2. 02Traits live in a profileName, plan, seats and the rest sit in a company profile, separate from events. The newest traits replace the whole set.
  3. 03Members are worked outA company’s members are the people whose events carried it in the dates you’re looking at. Nothing about membership is stored.
  4. 04It appears when you use itThe Companies pages and the Count by controls stay hidden until your project receives its first group, so a product without accounts sees no change.

FAQ

Companies, in detail.

  • No. A group type is any kind of account in your product: company, workspace, team. A project can have up to five. The app shows each type’s own name, and you can rename, reorder or hide a type in Lexicon. “Group” is the word in code.

  • No. An event is stamped with its company when it is sent and is never stamped afterwards. Company counts start from the first group call in the browser or app, or from the first server event that names its company.

  • Everyone who can open the project can see a company profile, so traits that look personal are left out by default: a value that reads as an email address or a phone number, and traits named like email, phone, ip, address, password or secret. If you need a billing contact on the profile, you can allow it for a source.

  • No. Give each client its own project. A project is the boundary that keeps one client from seeing another’s data; there is no access control per company. Use companies inside a client’s project when that client sells to businesses.

  • Yes. The MCP server lists your group types and your companies and reads one company’s profile, and its funnel, retention and breakdown tools can count by companies. A profile read this way holds no person identifiers.

  • No. Company analytics is on for every project and every plan. The trait update itself doesn’t count toward your monthly events; ordinary events count as they always did, with or without a company.
